Application to builder: My own ALU

Minecraft name: Slicudis

What do you like the most about redstone?:
I love that redstone has delays that makes things extremely slow, making CPU designers learn about CPU pipelining to increment the fmax. Because the theoretical highest fmax is 10 Hz, designers will have to look for other methods to execute instructions faster (Just like in real life!), like implementing superscalar and OOO cores.

What’s a thing you have made which demonstrates redstone knowledge?:
My ALU (Used as the trial build)

What does the thing do?:
It’s a classical 4-bit ALU that can execute these operations:

  • Add
  • Subtract
  • AND
  • OR
  • XOR
  • NAND
  • NOR
  • XNOR
  • IMPLIES (Usually unecessary)
  • NIMPLIES (Usually unecessary)

(I only could post a single pic because the website doesn’t let me post more)

Operation truth table: ALU truth table - Google Sheets

What did you make as your trial build?:

The same ALU

What is the warp for your trial build?:

Do you agree with the rules?:
Yes, I do.

I can’t tell from the photo, is that a MUX ALU (meaning it switches between gates) or is it control line based?

It’s this one stacked 4 times:

It has control lines like flood carry, !a, !b…

This application has been accepted! Whenever both you and a staff member are available, feel free to ask them for a trial. You are able to trial 2 times every 7 days. It is always recommended to do a practice trial with another member before starting your real one. Good luck!
