Your favorite thing about redstone:My favorite thing about redstone is the ability to build complex and seemingly insane systems in Minecraft using only redstone. I enjoy creating things like computers, CPUs, and logic circuits, and turning a game into a functional engineering environment.

A build you have made which demonstrates redstone knowledge (This is your trial build):An original 8-bit ripple-carry ALU with ROM-based control logic.

Explain what your build does in detail:My build is an original 8-bit adder-based ALU built around a ripple-carry architecture. Each bit starts with XOR gates that allow conditional inversion of inputs A and B. This inversion is used for subtraction and logical operations without relying on a mux-based design.

After the optional inversion stage, the inputs are processed by a chain of full adders. Each full adder computes the sum using XOR logic and generates a carry signal when required. The carry propagates vertically to the next bit layer, where it is added to the next stage, forming a standard ripple-carry structure. The final sum bits are output to lamps that display the result of the calculation.

Subtraction is implemented using two’s complement logic. When subtraction mode is enabled, input B is inverted and a forced carry-in of 1 is applied to the least significant bit, allowing the ALU to compute A + (~B) + 1. Carry propagation continues normally through all higher bits.

In addition to arithmetic operations, the ALU supports multiple logical operations by modifying the base adder logic rather than selecting between separate circuits. These operations include OR, NOR, AND, NAND, XOR, and XNOR.

Operation selection is controlled by a ROM-based control system. The ROM outputs directly control input inversion, carry-in behavior, and logic configuration, allowing the desired operation to be selected using a single control input instead of manually toggling multiple levers.

Overall, the ALU supports ADD, SUB, OR, NOR, AND, NAND, XOR, and XNOR operations, and all functionality has been tested and verified in-game.
