Builder Application (pchicken123)

**Minecraft name:**pchicken123

**What do you like the most about redstone?:**Redstone Logical
I’m pretty bad at building piston doors and I’m not bad at Redstone Logical and I really like the logic and the feeling when you finish something you’ve worked on for days

**What’s a thing you have made which demonstrates redstone knowledge?:**I don’t know if it will impress you but this is something I really like that I did is a piston door that randomizes two numbers and then writes the two numbers to you on the screen the door randomizes the mathematical operation (addition or subtraction) and keeps it to itself and then you have to write the correct answer otherwise the door won’t open

**What does the thing do?:**This answers both questions

This question is asking what you are providing as your trial build, not how you learned redstone. Generally we expect something at or above the level of a 4 bit ALU.

On the ORE Minecraft server, you put your trial build on your plot and create a warp with /setwarp <name> which allows us to get to the warp with /warp <name>

I have alu too but I like it less

In case it’s unclear, this application is requesting 2 separate builds:

  • A build to show your redstone capacity (which you already provided with the piston door that asks addition problems)
  • A trial build which you explain/demonstrate during the trial (which you have not provided)

The build you provided to show redstone capacity would not be sufficient as a trial build but an ALU (or something similarly advanced) would.

I had to build it on the server?

Yes, your trial build needs to be built on ORE

I thought the door fits both but if needed I’m going to add alu as well

Unfortunately the door would not be sufficient as a trial build. Generally the expectation is something at or above the level of a 4 bit ALU.

I added it

Could you tell me more about the ALU? What operations can it perform and how does it work?

or,end,xor,nor,nand,xnor,addition and subtraction

is that enough ?

Well, I was also looking for how it works.

On every gate?

More of an overview. Generally these work by taking some base adder and modifying it with a few control lines, is that how yours works or was there some other method?

Yes, mine works this way

FAQ

Q: What is my next step?
A: Join the ORE Minecraft server and request a trial with any available trialers (Engineers, Moderators, and Admins).

The server IP is mc.openredstone.org and the current version is 1.20.4 on Java Edition.

Q: Do I need to trial right away?
A: Nope! You are free to request a trial at any time so long as your application is accepted (which yours is).

Ideally you want to avoid taking too long, so we strongly recommend being sure you can pass before requesting a trial.

Q: How long does a trial last?
A: This can vary somewhat across different trialers, but generally somewhere around half an hour or less. It will often take longer if you aren’t as prepared, so we recommend reviewing ahead of time, especially with help from another member.

Q: What do I need to know for the trial?
A: This can also vary somewhat across different trialers, but here are some of the most important topics:

  • Binary and Binary Arithmetic (Addition/Subtraction)
  • Logic Gates and Bitwise Logic
  • Redstone Adders and ALUs
  • Two’s Complement (Signed Numbers)

A great way to make sure you know what to expect is to ask the specific trialer what you should learn ahead of time.

Q: How often can I retry after failing?
A: There are 2 limitations:

  1. Trials can be done 24 hours after a failed one
  2. Only 2 trials can be done every 7 days

Q: What are the benefits of Builder?
A: There are 2 main benefits:

  1. Permissions to use Worldedit commands
  2. A plot on the Build server (4 times as large as School server plots)

Aside from that, there are also some minor benefits such as:

  • Running and voting in Staff elections
  • Joining the Survival and Seasonal servers
  • Option to progress to Engineer (barring additional requirements are met)
  • Interact with other Build plots (assuming permission from the plot owner)
