Distant Horizons!

Since Distant Horizons Beta released, it has been easier than ever for servers to have it, this could fix Redstone breaking issues with ORE’s 10 chunk loading radius and other things like for users like me with DH, islands and other chunk loading artefacts can form.

were you not banned? lmao

What Redstone has been broken by the 10 chunk loading radius? I’ve never heard complaints of this.

This really isn’t helpful to the discussion.

sry mb

Well, because of lazy chunks and the Redstone in what the server sees as unloaded chunks, stack will tell you a lot about how his CPU couldn’t run without stackTripleFlow

Hot-take but nOREstone will fix it maybe

Idk, but if I was staff I’d wait for full release, not putting beta on a server when it could change any minute.

maybe

Appreciate the confidence xp

I’m a bit confused perhaps someone could explain but from my research dh is only available for fabric and neoforge while there is a compatibility plugin for the client mod

I also don’t understand how dh would help really as it is an LOD optimization for client performance; if there is some new development I would love to know, thanks.

Also I thought it was over ten chunks but idk. Why can’t they just up the simulation distance if this is an issue?

The thing that worries me with something like this is the performance impact. Already with half a dozen people on ORE and the current render distance, we can see up to 500,000 tiles loaded. I’m fearful that a plugin like this could make that much worse. Not to mention in order to process twice as far, it would have to load 4 times as much.

I also want to add builds which are large enough to run into this issue are probably incredibly slow at 20tps. Would they even be run on ore?

Why not limit it

We could limit it to the vanilla 32 chunk render distance, this will help alot of people running weaker clients because of DH’s LOD loading

Hmmm yes but if that is the case what if i lag cos of my neighbour’s messy plot due to increased render distance(no offense mixel your plot lags me xd) am i able to control it still?

Why, Distant Horizons has an LOD system and toy will still be able to control it. In fact, DH boost framerates of vanilla render distances

Meant as a reply to the previous message

With some caveats depending on client hardware and what they run due to overhead. I also still do not understand if you can explain.

Distant horizons, from what I understand, serves chunk data at a lower quality past sever render distance so there is improvements in performance than setting the chunk render distance that far. It does not actually load these for processes, like running redstone simulations.

Again, correct me if I am wrong, but you should be upping the simulation distance value for this. Upping this does NOT increase rendering distance, which adds a lot of server overhead, and does actually increase the capacity for redstone.

That is my understanding; I’m not against having dh since it helps for people on lower end clients, but it doesn’t seem to help fix the proposed issue.
