Me want builder; 4-bit ALU thingy

Your favorite thing about redstone: i love how it resembles logic and can be used to turn my creative idea’s into a possible reality.

A build you have made which demonstrates redstone knowledge (This is your trial build): i made a 4-bit Alu basically toggleable cca

Explain what your build does in detail: it takes in 4 bits of input from each column (column A/B) and into an xnor gate for the adding carry (to the carry cancel tower) and a nor gate for the carry cancel. the build also takes the xnor and inverts it to be an xor for the sum and that is hooked up to another final xor. the carry cancel takes the output which is the final computed carry into the other input side of the final xor which gives us the sum. if i wanna toggle it to subtract mode i just invert input b and turn on the carry in (two’s compliment: invert n add 1).

Please expand on what operations your ALU can perform. (You need logic too)

oh wait i thought an alu was a toggleable ccu addition/subtraction. uhh

ALU stands for Arithmetic Logic Unit, so they generally have the following functions:
Logic: OR, NOR, AND, NAND, XOR, XNOR, NOT
Arithmetic: Addition, Subtraction
They also generally will be controlled with “control lines” that determine what the behavior is, as opposed to a MUX which switches between discrete units for each function.

soo do i submit another application or..? this is kinda embarrasing ngl lmao

You can reply back here with new photos and a description when you have this.

its the same description; i basically described a 4-bit ccu

Your description is for an adder/subtractor which is fairly different from an ALU, so you should provide a new one when you make it. Also do you mean CCA?

Your favorite thing about redstone: i love how it resembles logic and can be used to turn my creative idea’s into a possible reality.

A build you have made which demonstrates redstone knowledge (This is your trial build): i made a 4-bit RCA ALU

Explain what your build does in detail: I built an 4-bit RCA which was then modified to work as a functional ALU. It has 2 columns of 4 bit input (column A/B) and 4-bit output and a carry in CIN and a carry out. it can add, subtract, and perform logic functions like AND, OR, NAND, NOR, XOR, etc… which can be enabled using the inputs responsible for the flood carry FC, Inverting column A and B (!A !B), carry in CIN, and OR.

This application has been accepted!

Please review the FAQ below to learn more about the remainder of the process of getting Builder rank.

FAQ

Q: What is my next step?
A: Join the ORE Minecraft server and request a trial with any available trialers (Engineers, Moderators, and Admins).

The server IP is mc.openredstone.org and the current version is 1.20.4 on Java Edition.

Q: Do I need to trial right away?
A: Nope! You are free to request a trial at any time so long as your application is accepted (which yours is).

Ideally you want to avoid taking too long, so we strongly recommend being sure you can pass before requesting a trial.

Q: How long does a trial last?
A: This can vary somewhat across different trialers, but generally somewhere around half an hour or less. It will often take longer if you aren’t as prepared, so we recommend reviewing ahead of time, especially with help from another member.

Q: What do I need to know for the trial?
A: This can also vary somewhat across different trialers, but here are some of the most important topics:

  • Binary and Binary Arithmetic (Addition/Subtraction)
  • Logic Gates and Bitwise Logic
  • Redstone Adders and ALUs
  • Two’s Complement (Signed Numbers)

A great way to make sure you know what to expect is to ask the specific trialer what you should learn ahead of time.

Q: How often can I retry after failing?
A: There are 2 limitations:

  1. Trials can be done 24 hours after a failed one
  2. Only 2 trials can be done every 7 days

Q: What are the benefits of Builder?
A: There are 2 main benefits:

  1. Permissions to use Worldedit commands
  2. A plot on the Build server (4 times as large as School server plots)

Aside from that, there are also some minor benefits such as:

  • Running and voting in Staff elections
  • Joining the Survival and Seasonal servers
  • Option to progress to Engineer (barring additional requirements are met)
  • Interact with other Build plots (assuming permission from the plot owner)
