ORE Staff Elections 2024

Intro

We’ve been short-handed recently, and it is beginning to show, so we are starting elections!

We’re looking to bring three more moderators to raise the total number of staff members to eleven. We’re looking primarily to improve staff activity, but also for any skills potential candidates might bring to the team. As always, this is a democratic process, so make sure to keep yourself and others aware of the process. In the next section, the phases of ORE’s Staff Elections is covered in depth.

The “Baseline of Expectations” for Moderators are as follows:

  • Be an active member of the community.
  • Available for and willing to trial at least once a week.
  • Handle moderation incidents when rules are broken and you are available.
  • Participate in staff discussion on Discord as it relates to current events or future projects.
  • Providing creative ways to improve our community.

Phases

Phase One - Nominations [2 Weeks]

2024-11-05T20:00:00Z to 2024-11-19T20:00:00Z

Over the next 2 weeks, all ORE members are free to nominate any ONE Builder/Engineer for Moderator. Provide a brief explanation (2 to 5 sentences) on why you believe they should be nominated. Self-nominations are permitted. Nominations should be posted as replies to this announcement.

Any duplicate or joke nominations will be removed.

Phase Two - Audits / Interviews [~2 Weeks]

2024-11-19T20:00:00Z to 2024-12-04T20:00:00Z

Staff review the nominees one by one, voting on each. If any candidates have a history of bad behavior on the server or has shown (based on prior behavior) that they would not be fit for moderator, then that nomination can be vetoed by staff with a majority vote. Note that a discord account is a requirement for being a staff member as our staff chat is very important to have direct access to.

During the audit/interview stage, we will be conducting “interviews”. These “interviews” will be presented as a Google Form, where the nominated individuals complete the form. Responses to this form will be public except the last one designated for private comments that will only be seen by the Staff team.

Completing the form is considered accepting your nomination. If you were nominated but do not desire to be Staff, you can simply not fill out the form. All nominees have until 2024-11-26T20:00:00Z to complete the form to allow Staff time to review the candidates.

Phase Three - Campaigning [1 Month]

2024-12-04T20:00:00Z to 2025-01-01T20:00:00Z

At this point all candidates who have accepted have indicated as such by completing the interview. The results of the interviews are here.

In the discord server, a candidate channel is created. Candidates have the option to create a discourse post arguing why they are a good pick for moderator. Links to these posts will be put in the candidate channel. Discussion on the elections will have a place in a thread within the candidate channel.

Phase Four - Voting [2 Weeks]

2025-01-01T20:00:00Z to TBD

Over two weeks, all Builders, Engineers, and Staff will be able to vote who they want to become Moderator. Candidates can be ranked from top to bottom or left off the ballot entirely. The voting system ORE Staff Elections use is known as STV.

During the process of Moderator Elections, Staff will also perform their own Admin Elections and vote on the Moderators to promote to Admin. This likely won’t happen right at the same time due to technical limitations, but will be around the same time.

Phase Five - Results [N/A]

Once voting concludes, there will be a brief pause while the results are calculated and the announcement post prepared. When the results are posted, the new moderators will be reached out to and given staff orientation.

I’d like to nominate Wueffi (aka Waffle)

Wueffi has shown both an interest in being a staff member and a strong capacity to interact with the ORE community. He is already taking an interest in working with staff by helping start up a new competition and by providing various helpful suggestions. Of the members I’m familiar with, I’m sure Wueffi is a top pick.

I nominate Amelium / Amy.

Recently Amy said she wants to get back into moderating after her break and i think with her previous experience and me experiencing it showed me that shes a good fit.

(Idk how revoting works xp)

Veterans stepping back up is a different process and doesn’t require “redoing” an election. So you’re welcome to nominate someone else.

I would like to nominate _Whisk

From my experience whisk often helps me (and others) out or awnsers questions and is very knowledgeable (he’s engi after all); He is also pretty active so I think he would be a great fit for a moderator.

I would like to nominate, the one, the only, Auzifriend (me)

while I’ve had previous discourse (ha, get the joke?) with members, I have communicated with all involved and am now on good terms with all. I dont have big plans for the server but due to the servers lack of staff - i would like to create a better, and more friendly atmosphere for new members; by trialing, building new areas, and teaching. im also very active currently!

I’m going to nominate Metertick

She’s super knowledgeable and has worked/is working with people to teach computational redstone. I’m sure she’d make a great addition to the staff team

I would like to nominate myself (artefox) for multiple reasons. I’ve been playing on ORE for over two years and it’s become my main reason to play Minecraft.
I’ve had moderating skills in the past on Discord servers, and providing for the community I love most is a dream I’ve had ever since I joined.
If you don’t remember, back in 2022 I’ve been ranting about how I’ll become the next mod during the next election which at the time I thought was May 2023.
I consider myself qualified enough to moderate for the ORE server as I genuinely have a passion in this community and field, and it would be my honour to make it a better place for everyone.

I would like to nominate Fritz_Tom.

Fritz_Tom is an excellent developer and takes a lot of time out of his day for other people. He also can judge situations well without a bias towards either party. He also excels at security and complex systems. He also puts a significant amount of time into furthering his skills and education.

He has shown his skill many times. In my opinion he is a fantastic candidate as he is adept at many of the skills required to run something such as ORE.

OK ig we just ignoring me now.

I would like to nominate myself (Ender_Noob).

I’ve been playing ORE for a little over 1.5 years now. I’ve been on and off with actively playing ORE, but this comp is gonna bring me back for the next month and beyond. I have a lot of experience owning and managing discord/Minecraft servers(albiet smaller ones), and have practice with moderating, and deescalating player arguments.
I’ve had many great experiences with ORE mod’s and other staff, and I would love to be able to help the community that sparked my love for redstone and computer engineering.

I would like to nominate myself (ArrowEnby).

I have been playing on the server for a good few years now, and whilst I haven’t been consistently active over those years, I am able to be much more active now. I love this community and would love to help out more. I’m by no means an amazing computational redstoner, but I do have some good knowledge. As well as that, I have previous server owning and moderation experience that could be beneficial the server.

I’d like to nominate ShayHi.
Shay has been a member of this community for as long as I can remember and they’ve always been helpful and kind to every member who’s asked them for help. They’re always happy to take time out of their day to be a useful member of the community and I believe they’d be a great fit as a staff member.

To clarify, if a community member has already been nominated, they cannot be nominated again. Messages nominating someone already nominated will be removed. (Waffle/Wueffi was already nominated)

I’d like to nominate myself (sebkuip)
I’ve only been part of ORE since august 2024, but I’ve quickly learned to enjoy this community. I have always been very open to help in various communities. I am willing to commit a decent amount of time by regularly logging in and interacting with the community.

I too would like to nominate myself.

All those fools made long run on paragraphs, I’m here to keep it short and sweet. Like a cookie. (Dw, I won’t steal ur data).

Who am I:

  • Fanfare, Fandit, Bandecapo, tyerafnaf, indephisive, and maybe more… Y’all might know me as many names, but they are all me
  • I’ve been part of ore for about 2 years now (I think) and with that tons of knowledge about the community and a good chunk about redstone (and more msgs than Nick might I add )
  • Irl I’m an avid programmer, hobby roboticist, non-hobby roboticist (frc programmer, cader, designer, and project manager and ftc captain, lead programmer, strategic lead, and drive coach), mountain biker, very novice artist (my only public work is the current (as of now) ore logo modification), and on a local student board.

Why I would make a good mod:

  • I’ve been on the receiving end of poor moderation so I know what it feels like, and I know what I can do to be helpful to the community.
  • Except for when I don’t know… Another great point you make there fan: I want to listen to y’all. It’s not the staffs community, it’s yours.
  • I know a lot of you. And I’m usually insanely active (y’all who know me know this, also aside from my recent mental health break).
  • I would do my best to make the community a fun place. And yes, I would be there to trial y’all more than probably all the other staff combined.
  • I would ban capo (like 100%)

Okay so maybe it wasn’t that short, but neither would be the amount of help I would give (mb, that sucked). My ELA teacher tells me I should restate my points here at the end but I’d rather not.

#fan4mod
Y’all who vote will get on a good side with me (don’t tell Nick)… Love y’all
