Requested Change: Re-trial “alterthecharts”
Reasons for change:
Alter has shown time and time again that he does not have the required knowledge to pass a builder trial.
He’s shown numerous times to not have a grasp of two’s comp’s inner workings in the slightest and fails to explain some of the most basic ALU functions.
Having somehow passed a trial, it feels like an unfair situation for other students trying their best to become builder.
I agree with this, alter constantly leaves out technical detail about certain things unless you ask him. It shows his understanding isnt all there
i have passed my trial with whisk but i have seen builder with less redstone knowledge than me if i passed i dont know why i am trying to get demoted

We’ll discuss this internally and give a proper decision on what to do, but from what I can tell their knowledge on Two’s Complement was noted as not entirely complete, but sufficient according to the person who trialed them. I can’t recall us having demoted someone on the basis of their current knowledge (not to say it definitely hasn’t happened, just not that I can think of) so there’s not necessarily a precedent even if he shouldn’t have passed. Frankly I’d be surprised if every Builder could still pass a Builder trial (though that’s not necessarily a point towards someone having recently passed a trial not meeting the requirements).
I will say separately that if the community generally wants us to make sure people maintain Builder-level knowledge after the trial across all Builders, then that’s a different issue in the realm of re-trialing regularly and whatnot. If that’s something people are interested in, then I’d suggest also creating a separate Moderation > Suggestions post to work towards that sort of thing. Again, that’s different from this specific situation (but I can see it potentially coming up in this discussion), so I’ll leave it at that.

I think it’s unlikely, but I can’t say for sure until we’ve had time to discuss it more.

Moved the post to Moderation > Incidents even though it’s not technically regarding rule-breaking. Moderation > Petitions is intended more for feature requests and similar, rather than discussions about someone’s rank qualifications.
Clarification: Petitions is for things that the community desires but staff haven’t implemented and have chosen not to. We have a separate Suggestions category for feature requests and stuff.
i am thinking of just asking for student but keep my plot in files so if i get builder again i can resume that plot is that possible, i dont really have the capacity to deal with this

Following internal discussion and a vote, we have decided against any action regarding this report (no demotion or re-trial). The reasoning boils down to what I included in my reply further up: There’s no precedent for demoting or re-trialing someone on the basis of their knowledge as long as they passed a fair trial. Demotions in general are quite rare and I’m not sure we’ve ever re-trialed anyone with their Builder rank at stake (mainly re-trials as a joke or for fun). Reviewing the trial information didn’t show anything questionable and a small lack of knowledge here is acceptable.
As I mentioned before, if anyone wants to propose regular re-trialing separate from this, then feel free to use Moderation > Suggestions to do so. I’m not sure how much interest there is in this, but if someone wants us to move to a higher standard for ranks across the board then that’s the place to start.
