Recent survival rule changes

this post here was made following recent survival rule changes (adding falling block duping to the rules to be allowed) due to this post in #suggestions on the discord: Discord
it seems since a week ago falling blocks were added to survival,
and i want to point out the same points i made when people tried polling for ending survival are valid to this case.
It was polled with 12 people agreeing with the suggestion and 2 against it. the point is if you look into the poll multiple people have either never been on survival or have been offline for months!

reading the post i noticed the poll was given as a reason driving to add the rule change and it seems absolutely ridiculous to the fact that its an irrelevant pole giving 0 information regarding survival players opinion.
not only that but to make my second point of… its in SUGGESTIONS, i know it is technically the place where people go to in order to suggest changes for the server but that channel is absolutely not the right place to make a decision in. reading back this post was also dead for a solid 3 months, showing my point, many people dont really go there to look at suggestions unless prompted to.
leading to what happened. a rule change happening without people knowing, i myself am a vivid survival player and i havent heard the slightest bit of this suggestion.

a decision regarding survival should be made only in survival chat while making sure people who give out their opinions are actually people who play survival (not allowing students or otherwise innactive and absent players from affecting the final decision).

now, i do see people using this feature for their projects and to fight to remove it seems pointless and generally unfavorable of me so i will accept the current ruleset.
BUT. i do push staff AGAIN to correct their ways going forward and to think before making changes that can affect the entire server without consulting the playerbase and asking for an honest opinion.
i see this change as drastic, rash and impulsive decision that was needed to be thought of more and am thoroughly disappointed.

I dont know how staff will act but i hope to leave this post up as a place for discussing this topic aswell as on the #Survival chat on the discord.

Just wanna note that these opinions are mine and not ORE staff’s as a whole.

I agree that it’s important to make sure the active survival players are aware and involved in survival-related decisions. I’ll try to make sure that happens when I see it going forward.

Students I’m fine with leaving out, but not Builders (and up) who are inactive on Survival. Often the active survival players become a smaller and smaller group the longer survival is around and I don’t think it’s fair to exclude such a significant majority of people from a decision that affects all future survival seasons.

i somewhat disagree on that claim.
a large amount of builders can be grouped into 3 groups that are related to exclusion reasons
A: they dont play ore or survival, the quitters so to say, they are on the server and have passed a trial but generally offline and inactive, i do not agree they should have a say in anything especially survival.
B: they play ore but not survival ever, the redstoners, letting them have a say in survival rules may be proactive in encouraging them to play, but that isnt the point. if they wanted to play survival they would’ve already, if they havent yet it means that they shouldnt care whether or not a rule on survival changes and if they do they would play survival.
C: they play ore and survival but have been inactive since the beginnging, the leavers, i am somewhat on the edge regarding these kind of people due to your point exactly. they dont really play for long for who knows why but they do play every once a month or more, letting them have a say is important yet they dont affect much, given the fact this IS a rule for the rest of survival ever i do think they should be given an option to vote but as long as they do show activeness generally in the community and a will to converse and care about survival, as if they’re only there to puff the vote its practically sabotage.

then again i dont think i could ever split this off completely black and white, can and cant vote, and if this type of decision does ever come back and needs to be decided i whole heartedly believe staff will make the right call on where to put the line.

Thinking on it for a bit, I’m not opposed to putting the line as “Joined the Survival server” or maybe even some relatively short (like maybe 15 minutes so they’re not just joining and leaving or smth) Survival playtime requirement. That should get everyone in group C (and maybe some who are in the other groups and joined one time or whatever). I can see your point about people who never really touch Survival not making much sense to consider. I’m not sure if I’d be interested in restricting much beyond that though.

In retrospect, applying such a change as a result of a poll in a suggestions chat was not the way to do it. At the very least, making the poll more prominent in the Survival chat was the way to go, then announcing it to Survival players would be the next step.

As per user input, we will have to find a way to best get the opinion of active Survival players while not completely ignoring the rest of the eligible player base.

It was locked btw

Eithan, as an active survival player , i totally agree with your point on how generally inactive people on ore whether for the server or survival shouldnt have a say in the future of survival.
But also as a person who wants to participate in the survival votes but cant have discord yet, can there be one in the forums or in the server chat at a planned time.

Thank you
